Our Mission: To create awareness about availability of palliative care services, quality and sustainable, general and specialized health services in Kabale regional referral hospital.

Goal

  1. To alleviate suffering of patients with debilitating conditions, for example: - cancers, HIV, congenital conditions.
  2. Provide quality and sustainable palliative care to patients (vulnerable) who need it in the region.
  3. Create awareness, Equip staffs with knowledge, skills and avail drugs (medicine).
  4. Create awareness about Palliative Care services to terminally ill patients/clients in southwestern Region.

About Palliative Care Unit

Palliative care is the active holistic care of patients with advanced progressive illness with Management of pain and other symptoms with provision of physical, psychological, social and spiritual support overriding.
Palliative care (WHO Definition) Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems; physical, psychosocial and spiritual.
Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Palliative care (KRRHPC) has been providing Facility Based Care and Community/Home BASED CARE services since 2012. It is serving over 7(seven) Districts that is to say; Kabale, Kanungu, Kisoro, Rukiga, Rubanda, Rukungiri and Ntungamo and neighbouring countries like Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, and offers preventive, curative, promotion and rehabilitative services under different departments, for example; Out-Patients Department, Surgery, Obstetrics/Gynaecology, Medical, Paediatrics and Psychiatry. KRRHPC has been working hand in hand with ministry of health (Kabale Regional Referral Hospital), PCAU, APCA and THET in conjunction with MPCA with the effort to improve the quality of life of the terminally ill within the region. Under this initiative, the programme has trained different cadres in Integration palliative care course (200 Participants), Hospital Pain Free management Initiative (100 Participants), and VHTs (60 Participants).

ART CLINIC COORDINATOR

ART/HIV CLINIC

Background

The ART/HIV clinic is one of the specialized clinics that provide Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) and other HIV Services in the hospital. It covers a vast range of services such as HIV Testing and Counseling (HTS), HIV prevention including EMTCT, Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC), HIV care and treatment, TB screening and management, Psychosocial Support (PSS). Some of these services are carried out in multiple departments of the hospital beyond the ART/HIV clinic such as HTS in all hospital entry points and wards.

Our Mission To provide quality, equitable and sustainable HIV/AIDS care and other health care services in the region, in Uganda and Internationally.

The departments in ART clinic include:

  1. Counseling department that involves PSS counselors (social workers), HTS counselors
  2. Data/Records Department
  3. Pharmacy department
  4. MCH (ANC & EID Mother Baby Point Of Care)
  5. TB care (One stop shop center)
  6. Clinical department.
  7. Community department that involves: PLHIV networks/Peers
